: 1st: That car is a Japanese car that runs in Japan *not* the US. I said SGP would hold the *US* record this year. Didn't it come over to the US to make some passes? I'll have to dig up that Turbo article again. I'm almost positive it made a few 7-8 sec runs here. If so this point is invalid about it being a "Japanese car that runs in Japan". I would think that if Kenji Nakamura (Japanese Joe Smith) came over here and ran the fastest mile ever done in the US, his record would be just as valid of a "fastest US record". As long as the record setting run was done on US soil, I think it should count (as far as this point is concerned). Then again, my memory could be failing me about it coming here. : 2nd: That car is *tube* frame with fiberglass body panels that just look simular to a Z32. That car was *never* produced as a Z32 from the factory. My car still is a Z32 and retains *ALL* Factory steel panels. So, at what point would we say that a Z32 is not a Z32 anymore? If you were to replace your panels with carbon fiber panels, would that still be a Z32? In my book, the second that a car becomes a tube-framed car, it's no longer equivalent to the street car version. I personally find the efforts of all the Honda racers running with the original frames and only hitting 9's is much more impressive than Stephen Papidakas' (sp?) 8 sec tube framed Honda (not to take away from what you are doing with your car). It's just difficult to know exactly where to draw the line. But, I will concede that you made a valid point. If that car was never a Z32 to begin with and was built from scratch, then it definitely shouldn't count. : 3rd: That car is powered by an RB motor. It is a Nissan motor *BUT* it is not a Z32 motor. Hmm... as someone mentioned in the middle of all this, Z32 refers to the chassis. There's no such thing as a "Z32 motor"... its official designation is "VG30DE(TT)". But again, at what point do we consider something not being a Z32? What if it were some sort of hybrid engine with a VG bottom end and the rest from the VQ engine (not that it's possible, but just hypothetically speaking). Could we still consider that a VG motor? While the RB probably shares very very few parts (if any) with the VG, it's just at the extreme end of the "hybrid" spectrum. I don't have any answers to these questions, but they are definitely thought provoking to say the least. I also think that it was pretty convenient how all of this clarification came about AFTER the bet was made (kind of like making up rules in the middle of a game)... and that the clarification only came from one side (to obviously benefit that side). It doesn't matter anyways because I know that you were just trying to stop all the talk going on and weren't serious about the bet. Anyways, in the end, I know it's just going to be all of us Z owners saying "Man, Kyle's got a 8 second Z!"... and all of the Supra owners will be saying "That's not a real Z... it's tube framed, so it doesn't count!". LOL. Good luck with your Z. When you're spinning your slicks all the way down the track, you know where you can come to get some traction. :-)
